Im Taking Sides
Today is the Superbowl. I really really do not like football. I cant stand it. Normally on Superbowl day, I do all I can to ignore the "big game". However, this year is different... I am taking sides and rooting for the Saints. Why? Because I love New Orleans. In fact, I am not rooting for the Saints, but for New Orleans.
Believe it or not, New Orleans is still struggling from the aftermath of Katrina. A Superbowl win for the Saints would be SO good for the city. Regular attendance would go up for the Saints, people would come in from all places to see the winners play, all of this bringing more tourists to the city.
When I volunteered in New Orleans a year after Katrina, I was shocked by the empty neighborhoods and all of the progress that still needed to be made. What also surprised me was how hopeful the people were, and how grateful they were even after losing everything.
I will never forget the people of New Orleans. GO SAINTS!

The famous Superdome where the Saints play, still closed a year after Katrina.
